Terms of Service
Last updated: 3 October 2026 · See also the Refund Policy and the Privacy Policy
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern the use of Screenbutler, the digital-signage service provided at screenbutler.app and console.screenbutler.app, the player page and the Screenbutler TV app (together the "Service"). The Service is provided by Sea View Software GmbH, Steinstraße 81–83, 35390 Gießen, Germany, registered with the Amtsgericht Gießen under HRB 12514, represented by its managing director Robin Heller ("we", "us"). You can reach us at hello@screenbutler.app.
1. Acceptance and scope
By creating a company account, starting a trial or purchasing a subscription you agree to these Terms. The Service is designed for businesses, organisations, public bodies and self-employed professionals ("entrepreneurs" within the meaning of § 14 BGB). If you use the Service on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to bind it. Consumers may use the Service as well; where mandatory consumer-protection law grants consumers rights beyond these Terms, that law prevails (see section 7).
2. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms, for example when the Service, the law or our payment provider changes. Material changes are announced by e-mail to company owners or in the console at least 30 days before they take effect. If you do not agree, you can cancel before the change takes effect; continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
3. The Service
Screenbutler turns a TV or any device with a web browser into a managed screen: you create slides and playlists in the web console, pair screens with a short code, and the screens display the content you schedule. Key features include the slide formats listed on the features page, scheduling, overlays, messages, a people directory, roles and an audit log, team members and companies without limit, an HTTP API, the Screenbutler TV app for Android TV and Google TV, and e-mail support. We may add, change or retire features; we will not remove a core function (creating content, pairing screens, playing playlists) without notice.
4. Accounts and companies
You need an account with a valid e-mail address to use the console. Each account belongs to one or more companies; the person who creates a company is its owner and can invite members with roles. You are responsible for keeping credentials confidential and for everything done under your account. Tell us promptly at hello@screenbutler.app if you suspect misuse. We may suspend accounts that violate these Terms, are used for abuse, or present a security risk.
5. Trial, plans, fees and payment
Trial. New companies start with a free trial of 14 days with every feature and up to 10 screens. No payment details are required. When the trial ends without a subscription, the screens pause (the TV shows a "trial ended" notice) and the console remains accessible; your content is kept for 90 days and then deleted unless you subscribe. There is no permanent free plan.
Price. The Service costs €9 per paired screen per month, net of VAT, billed monthly. Every feature is included; there are no tiers and no setup fee. Fleets from 50 screens can request an individual offer. A "screen" is one entry in the console with its own playlist and settings; several devices can be paired to the same screen. Prices are shown on the pricing page.
Payment processing and Merchant of Record. Subscriptions are sold through our reseller Paddle.com Market Ltd, Judd House, 18–29 Mora Street, London EC1V 8BT, United Kingdom, acting as Merchant of Record. Paddle handles the checkout, collects payment, issues the invoice, and calculates, collects and remits applicable VAT or sales tax. Your purchase is therefore also subject to Paddle's Checkout Buyer Terms. Prices quoted net; VAT is added at checkout where applicable (a valid VAT ID entered at checkout enables the reverse-charge mechanism for business customers in the EU outside Germany).
Renewal and changes. Subscriptions renew automatically every month until cancelled. The number of screens is measured at each billing date; adding screens increases the next charge, removing screens reduces it. We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice by e-mail; the new price applies from the next renewal after the notice period, and you may cancel before then.
6. Cancellation
You can cancel at any time, effective at the end of the current billing month, from the billing area of the console or by writing to hello@screenbutler.app. After cancellation the screens pause at the end of the paid period; your data is kept for 90 days so you can export it (Company → Download everything as JSON) or resubscribe, then deleted. Owners can delete a company and its data immediately at any time.
7. Refunds and the consumer right of withdrawal
Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy: the first charge of a new subscription can be refunded on request within 14 days; later renewals are not refundable except where the law requires it or the Service was unavailable through our fault. Refunds are processed by Paddle to the original payment method.
Consumers (natural persons acting outside their trade or profession) have a statutory right to withdraw from a distance contract within 14 days without giving reasons (§§ 312g, 355 BGB). To exercise it, send a clear statement to Sea View Software GmbH, Steinstraße 81–83, 35390 Gießen, Germany, hello@screenbutler.app; you may use the statutory model withdrawal form. If you asked us to start the service during the withdrawal period, you owe a proportionate amount for the service used up to the withdrawal (§ 357a BGB).
8. Your content and acceptable use
You keep all rights to the content you upload or create (images, videos, documents, texts, feeds, the people directory). You grant us the non-exclusive right to store, process and transmit that content solely to provide the Service to your screens and members. You are responsible for that content: you must hold the necessary rights and licences (including, where applicable, collecting-society licences such as GEMA or SACEM for music or video played in public), must comply with data-protection law for personal data you add (for example in the people directory), and must not use the Service for unlawful, infringing, defamatory, hateful or misleading content, for malware, or to interfere with the Service or other customers. We may remove content or suspend screens that violate this section after notice, or without notice where the law or an urgent risk requires it.
9. Data protection
How we process personal data is described in the Privacy Policy. For personal data you store in the Service (such as the people directory) we act as your processor under Art. 28 GDPR; a data-processing agreement with the EU standard contractual clauses for processors is available on request at hello@screenbutler.app and forms part of the contract once signed.
10. Availability and support
We operate the Service with reasonable care on servers in Germany and aim for continuous availability, but we do not promise a specific uptime. Players cache the current playlist and keep playing during short outages. We may perform maintenance, preferably outside European business hours, and will announce longer planned maintenance in the console. Support is provided by e-mail in English, German and French, normally within one business day.
11. Intellectual property
The Service, the console, the player, the TV app, our documentation and our trademarks remain our property or that of our licensors. You receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service for the duration of the contract. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer or resell the Service, or use it to build a competing product.
12. Warranty and liability
We are liable without limitation for damages caused intentionally or by gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act, and for guarantees we have expressly given. For slight negligence we are liable only for the breach of material contractual obligations (obligations whose fulfilment makes the proper performance of the contract possible and on whose observance you may regularly rely), limited to the damage that was foreseeable and typical at the time of contracting, and in any event limited to the fees you paid in the 12 months before the event. We are not liable for the content you display, for third-party services you connect (calendars, feeds, Google, social networks, Slack), for TV hardware, or for data loss that proper backups on your side would have prevented. Statutory warranty rights remain unaffected; the trial is provided as is.
13. Termination for cause
Either party may terminate for cause with immediate effect, in particular if the other party materially breaches these Terms and does not remedy the breach within 14 days of notice, or if payment is more than 30 days overdue. Sections 8, 11, 12 and 15 survive termination.
14. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. For entrepreneurs, legal entities under public law and special funds under public law, the exclusive place of jurisdiction is Gießen, Germany. For consumers the statutory places of jurisdiction apply. The European Commission's platform for online dispute resolution is available at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr; we are neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute-resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
15. Final provisions
If a provision of these Terms is invalid, the rest remains in force. These Terms, the Refund Policy, the Privacy Policy and any signed data-processing agreement are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service; Paddle's Checkout Buyer Terms govern the purchase transaction. The English version is the contractual text.
